my first car tyre swan
With some help and advice I made my first swan from a car tyre last week - many thanks to Laurie and Kevin.

famous for 15 minutes?
Last week a team of TV students from AUT visited the Shed to conduct interviews with Shed members and get footage of Shed activities for their final project.
The finished video will be some seven minutes long, and will generously be made available for Shed use on youtube and at presentations.

an old farm shed
Last week we went up to the Kaipara Harbour for a few days. On one of our walks we came across an old abandoned farm shed - with the tools still hanging on the wall.
A piece of real NZ farming history here - maybe someone from Te Papa would support the relocation of this gem to our National Museum?

lunchtime at the shed
Men's Shed North Shore is now open and members are coming in on Mondays/Wednesdays/Saturdays from 10-3 to work on projects and get together and have a yarn.
Subjects over lunch last Monday ranged from V8 racing, modified Anglias, auctions, MIG welders, internet scams, selling real estate, speeding tickets, Bunnings Vs Mitre 10 service-wise, buying building materials at trade prices, making swans from car tyres, and racing at Western Springs.
I mentioned that I have some black and white 8mm film footage of racing at Western Springs in the 1950's, and offered to bring a projector and the film to the Shed this week for a movie show.

grand opening
After seven years work the Men's Shed North Shore was opened on Sunday 7th April 2013.
Kaipatiki Local Board Chair Lindsay Waugh did the honours and cut the "ribbon" to applause from the large crowd of dignitaries, members and supporters.
The Shed was then opened for inspection, and The "Pink Ladies" put on a sumptuous afternoon tea in the lunch-room.
The list of people to thank is extensive, to say the least, but especial thanks must be extended to Jill Nerheny QSM (Senior Community Co-ordinator for the Kaipatiki Community Facilities Trust) who was inspired by the Men's Sheds she visited on a trip to Australia to set about establishing one here on the North Shore in Auckland.

The Prostate Cancer North Shore Support group will meet on April 9 2013 at the Sunnynook Community centre cnr Sunnynook Rd & Sycamore Dr at 7pm.
