community project

Shed members are repairing ten bicycles for Onepoto School.
The kids seem to have given them a fair thrashing, & sadly Chinese manufacturing ain't the best - still, it's all in day's work for community-minded volunteers. Good on you guys!

Sarah has posted this notice to our board at the Men's Shed North Shore - can anyone step up to help?

2nd shed project completed

Last week Huang showed me how to make a jig to drill holes on the inside of my bookcase (I used an old shelf) so that I could insert metal plugs to support shelves at variable angles.
I brought the shelf home and painted it over the weekend - it fits in well with my other shelving - and will soon fill-up with books I find in the trash!

that chicken rocks

Cabinet-maker Huang has been helping me convert an old drawer into a bookcase, and in turn I have been giving him a hand to repair the paper-machie chicken he brought in - it's a rocking horse, or rather a rocking chicken, and was badly cracked and in need of a paint-job.
We cut the bottom panel out, then fibre-glassed inside as reinforcement....more next Wednesday....

As a collector of ephemera I enjoy finding drawings and sketches of plans/ideas for projects in the Shed...I spotted this one in the smoko room the other day...

offer for counselling

Last week Sinead Looney came into the Shed and spoke with some of the members at lunchtime. (Her Dad is a member of a Men’s Shed in Ireland).
As a trainee counsellor Sinead is offering Shed members free private discussion sessions at the Shed - members are welcome to discuss any issues they may be facing including retirement, health, loss, bereavement, family issues, problem children/grandchildren, etc.
In her own words:
My name is Sinead Looney. I grew up in Ireland and moved to NZ in 2008.
At the moment I am a student at Unitec working towards a Post-Graduate Diploma in Counselling. I am a student member of NZAC (New Zealand Association of Counsellors).
What is Counselling?
Counselling offers a safe and supportive place to come and talk about anything that is on your mind. We talk about what YOU want to talk about, with no interruptions - the time is all yours and it’s strictly confidential.
Please feel free to contact me to make an appointment - I will be available at the Men’s Shed North Shore on Wednesdays and Saturdays”

Ph: 021 0230 7119
email: sineadlooney@hotmail.com

Members are encouraged to take advantage of Sinead’s generous offer to discuss what may seem to be minor issues as well as anything major. Sometimes all we need is for someone to just listen and be supportive without being judgemental or patronizing.
I have some relationship & grandchildren (?!) issues I would like to voice with Sinead.....
